INTRODUCTION
The innate immune response is, in many cases, sufficient for the prevention of
microbial invasion and dissemination. For some pathogens, however, innate
responses alone are inadequate for clearance and instead play the crucial role of
alerting the adaptive immune system to the threat of a microbial pathogen. In Chapter
6 , we discussed aspects of NF-
B function that shape the innate immune response
and how these lead to the initiation of the adaptive response. In this chapter we will
