Rates
All calls made from private phones in Hong Kong are local calls and therefore free.
As in the rest of the world, payphones are increasingly rare. Hotels charge from HK$3 to
HK$5 for local calls.

All landline numbers in the territory have eight digits (except 800 toll-free num-
bers and specific hotlines).
Mobile Phones
Coverage
Hong Kong locals are addicted to their mobile telephones, which work every-
where, including in the harbour tunnels and on the MTR.
Access
Any GSM-compatible phone can be used here.
Purchase
PCCW and other service providers have mobile phones and accessories along
with rechargeable SIM cards for sale from HK$98. Local calls work out to cost between 6¢
and 12¢ a minute (calls to the mainland are about HK$1.80/minute).
