A spirited addition to Kowloon's midrange options, Madera is close to the
Temple Street
Night Market
and the Jordan MTR station. The decent-sized rooms come in neutral tones
accented with the bold, vibrant colours of Spanish aesthetics. Madera (meaning 'wood') also
has a ladies' floor, a hypo-allergenic floor, and a tiny but adequate gym room.

Eclectic 'retro Hong Kong' artefacts and a fake fireplace decorate the dimly-lit communal
spaces of this hotel at a slightly out-of-the-way location. The rooms, however, are more con-
ventionally stylish, and the service is reassuring. Pentahotel is a 10-minute walk south from
Diamond Hill MTR station. They also run a free shuttle service to the MTR and shopping
hot spots.
The smoking floors are 5th, 6th, 18th, 29th and 30th.

some of the more expensive ones have good harbour views. The family rooms have bunk
beds, which is good if you're travelling with kids. Haggle before you book: depending on
the season and day of the week, prices are often reduced by 50%.

The 28 coffin-sized rooms here feel quite airy, thanks to savvy use of glass and whites. The
service, by contrast, can be nonchalant. The hotel is in a quiet corner of Tsim Sha Tsui's old
residential quarter, yet close to the watering holes of Knutsford Tce. Tall people will find the
beds cramped.
