This museum has a display of excavated relics and other artefacts on the 1st floor, while the
2nd floor contains religious objects, handicrafts and architectural models.
CHURCH
CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF CARMEL
Built in 1885, this pretty church stands on a hill overlooking the harbour, scenic Taipa vil-
lage and the pastel-coloured Taipa Houses-Museum.
TEMPLE
POU TAI TEMPLE
A picturesque temple founded in the 19th century by Buddhist monks, Pou Tai has an
enormous bronze statue of Lord Gautama in its main hall, and prayer pavilions and orchid
greenhouses scattered around the complex. The monks also operate a
vegetarian restaurant
.
VILLAGE
TAIPA VILLAGE
The historical part of Taipa is best preserved in this village in the south of the island. With a
tidy sprawl of traditional Chinese shops and some excellent restaurants, the village is punc-
tuated by colonial villas, churches and temples. Avenida da Praia, a tree-lined esplanade
with wrought-iron benches, is perfect for a leisurely stroll.
