HOTEL
HOTEL SINTRA
from MOP$2500; ; 3, 11, 22)
Spotless rooms and professional staff make this centrally located three-star hotel a
great-value option. Our only complaints are the slow-moving lift and the massive LED
screen of the Grand Emperor Hotel nearby, which is visible from some rooms. Dis-
counts of up to 50% midweek.
LUXURY HOTEL
MANDARIN ORIENTAL
Aterros do Porto Exterior;r MOP$2088-4000, ste MOP$4788-6588; )
A great high-end option, the Mandarin has everything associated with the brand -
elegance, superlative service, comfortable rooms and excellent facilities. Though rel-
atively small, it's a refreshing contrast to the glitzy casino hotels.
HISTORIC HOTEL
POUSADA DE SÃO TIAGO
República;ste MOP$3000-5400; ; 6, 9, 28B)
Built into the ruins of the 17th-century Barra Fort, the landmark São Tiago is the
most romantic place to stay in Macau. No other hotel has such a rich history. All 12
rooms are elegantly furnished suites. Discounts of up to 35% off season. The restaur-
ant La Paloma is here.
CASINO HOTEL
SOFITEL MACAU AT PONTE 16
cos;r MOP$1520-2220, ste from MOP$4500; ; 1, 2, 10, 5, 7)
This reasonably priced luxury hotel offers some atmospheric views of the sleepy In-
ner Harbour and the Ruins of the Church of St Paul on the other side. The rooms are
large, with contemporary decor and plush, inviting beds.
BOUTIQUE HOTEL
ROCKS HOTEL
MOP$1880-2880, ste from MOP$4080; ; 3A, 5, 23)
All rooms at this elegant Victorian-style boutique hotel have a balcony - most with a
view of the bay. Unlike most hotels of this price in Macau, the Rocks doesn't have a
casino attached. It's also located in a relatively quiet area.
