A short stroll southwest of Leal Senado is this tiny, family-run restaurant that has won a
well-deserved reputation among Macau's Portuguese community. Service is patchy, but no
one seems to mind. Tables are often in short supply, so phone ahead.

'The Sailboat' is listed in every guidebook. One reason for its popularity is that it's within
walking distance of the A-Ma Temple. If you go not expecting outstanding creativity, you'll
enjoy its solid Portuguese and Macanese fare. Portions are generous.

The international branch of Portugal's famous Fortaleza do Guincho, this luxuriously decor-
ated restaurant brings Portuguese haute cuisine to Macau. The menu features well-executed
classical dishes, with a couple of Macanese additions. Set meals are available at lunch (from
MOP$300) and dinner (from MOP$600).

With water (a symbol for money) cascading down the wall, crystal-dripping chandeliers and
an auspicious numeral for a name, the Eight can only belong to a casino. Granted, it's a stel-
lar restaurant set apart from similar places by its solid dim sum, the chef's creativity and
three Michelin stars. Getting a table is almost impossible without a reservation.
