SLEEPING IN THE NEW TERRITORIES
Good-value accommodation is in short supply in the New Territories. There are four
official HI-affiliated hostels, all in the remote parts of the region. Walkers and hikers
can pitch a tent at any one of 40 New Territories campsites managed by the
Country

BRADBURY JOCKEY CLUB YOUTH HOSTEL

This is the HKYHA's flagship hostel in the New Territories and is open daily year-
round. Bradbury is next to the northern tip of the Plover Cove Reservoir dam wall, a
few hundred metres south of Tai Mei Tuk. To get here take bus 75K (or 275R on
Sundays and public holidays) from Tai Po Market KCR East station to the Tai Mei Tuk
bus terminus. The hostel is on the road leading to the reservoir.

BRADBURY HALL YOUTH HOSTEL

This hostel is in the beautiful cove of Chek Keng, where some unspoilt beaches are
just a flip-flop's throw away. The dorms are slightly dated but clean. To get there, take
bus 94 from Sai Kung bus terminal to Pak Tam Au. Walk along stage 2 of the MacLe-
hose Trail towards Chek Keng Village. The walk takes about 40 minutes. A faster way
to the hostel is to take bus 96R or 698R to Wong Shek Pier, and then take a scheduled
ferry to Chek Keng Pier. The boat journey is about 10 minutes.

This is the plushest sleeping option as you head out towards the border with China.
Views of Tolo Harbour or the rolling hills of Sha Tin can be seen in most rooms. It's a
five-minute walk from University East Rail station.
