Hugging a street corner is this beautiful four-storey Chinese 'shophouse' belonging to a
school of Chinese medicine. A historic construction (c 1931), it features a mix of Chinese
and European architectural styles - deep verandahs, urn-shaped balustrades and other fanci-
ful takes on a Neoclassical Italian villa. The ground floor, which has a herbal tea shop, is
open to public. Free guided tours to the upper-floor clinics is available by registration.
They're in Cantonese, but exhibits have bilingual labels.
An English tour can be arranged for groups of more than four. Make an appointment if
you want to have your pulse taken by a Chinese doctor.

This century-old slaughterhouse deep in the entrails of Kowloon has reincarnated into an
artists' village, its red-brick buildings housing studios and exhibition halls. There are some
20 art organisations inside, including On and On Theatre Workshop . The nonprofit visual art
organisation 1a Space ( GOOGLE MAP ; 2529 0087; www.oneaspace.org.hk ; 63 Ma Tau Kok Rd,
Unit 14, Cattle Depot Artist Village, To Kwa Wan; noon-7pm Tue-Sun; 106, 12A, 5C, 101, 111) is one
of the most active tenants in the village, holding regular exhibitions of high-quality local
