MONUMENT
GOLDEN BAUHINIA SQUARE
A 6m-tall statue of Hong Kong's symbol stands on the waterfront just in front of the Hong
Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre to mark the establishment of the Hong Kong SAR in
1997. The flag-raising ceremony, held daily at 8am and conducted by the Hong Kong po-
lice, is a must-see for mainland tourist groups. There's a pipe band on the first day of each
month at 7.45am.

CENTRAL PLAZA
Central Plaza, Hong Kong's third-tallest building, looks garish with its glass skin of three
colours - gold, silver and terracotta. But it provides direct connection to the Hong Kong
Convention & Exhibition Centre and Wan Chai MTR station through an elevated pedestrian
footbridge.

With its striking triangular atrium and an exterior Meccano-like frame (a work of art in it-
self), the academy building (1985) is a Wan Chai landmark and an important
venue
for mu-
