14.4.1 Repairs to corrosion and AAR
Corrosion
The most common techniques, and combinations, used to repair corrosion
are shown in Figure 14.6 and summarised as follows:
Patching was carried out in 70 per cent of the repairs to corrosion and
35 per cent of the patches were accompanied by coating.
Crack injection was carried out in 25 per cent of the repairs and 30 per
cent of the injections were coated.
Sprayed concrete was applied in 10 per cent of the repairs.
Solo coatings were applied in 5 per cent.
CP was applied in 8 per cent.
In the nine cases where prestressing steel had corroded, eight required
strengthening. Four were strengthened by added prestress.
AAR
There were 14 cases of AAR reported and five were accompanied by
corroded reinforcement. Nine of the repairs involved patching, six of them
being coated. The techniques are summarised in Figure 14.7.
