12.9 Summary
A successful contract is a safe contract where the whole project team has
worked in unison to deliver the project on time and within budget. It requires
the following.
• A realistic time-frame to deliver the project
• A detailed investigation of the concrete to identify the nature and extent
of the problem
• A clear specification and schedule of works using BS EN 1504 and the
CRA Method of Measurement for UK contracts
• Careful selection of materials and contractors
• Standard Conditions of Contract without amendment and a clear
understanding of roles and responsibilities
• A strong emphasis on Health and Safety dealing with project-specific
issues
• Quality control.
The tools are now available to achieve a successful outcome for contracts
which involve concrete repair and provide a long-term solution to durability
issues.
