In-Depth Information
Figure 4.11 Thermal sprayed zinc applied to the leaf piers of Golden Fleece
Interchange on the M6, UK. Probe anodes are applied to the cantilevered ends, the
bearing shelf and the diaphragm walls between the longitudinal steel.
Figure 4.12 shows a series of beams and columns on a jetty being
protected with mixed metal oxide coated titanium ribbon anodes. The cover
was sufficiently thick to avoid short circuits and it avoided the increase in
dead load, risk of overlay delamination and change in profile of a mesh plus
overlay anode system.
4.4 Application to reinforced concrete buildings and car parks
Figures 4.13 and 4.14 show the application of conductive organic paint
coating anodes to a reinforced concrete building with calcium chloride
added to the mix as a set accelerator. The outer two bars and stirrups were
corroding so the coating is only required on the outer face.
An example of conductive coatings applied to a car park soffit is shown
in Figure 4.15.
4.5 Concluding remarks
Electrochemical techniques include impressed current cathodic protection,
galvanic cathodic protection electrochemical chloride extraction and
electrochemical realkalisation (see chapters 8 and 9 ). They treat a large area
