We cruised through Klyuchee exultant. We had conquered the trench. We had
made it through; we'd won. The road lay open and snow-free before us and al-
though Siberia was still a thousand kilometres away, the distance seemed like pea-
nuts compared to the past two days. We reached the top of a hill and turned to sur-
vey the village and snow - the frontier even - behind us. I paused for a minute,
smiled and pushed off again.
Watch out Siberia, I thought. I'm on my way Nat.
Tim grinned like a maniac beside me. Then he let out a whooping yell: 'China,
look out. Here we come!'
