14.7.3.1 What Does a Private ASP Offer?
A Private ASP offers the following:
It Provides Applications Services to a restricted business ecosystem of Ford and its partici-
pating partners.
It provides individual Enterprise-oriented services for Ford and each of the partners through
separate instances of each of these applications.
It also provides individual company-specific services for internal applications like HRMS,
CRM, and e-mail to Ford and its partners separately. Thus, if there are 100 partners who
have joined Ford's private ASP program, there may be 100 different implementations of
HRMS, CRM, etc. (from different vendors), systems for the specific requirements for each
of these partners but handled by the same entity—the Private ASP.
Ford can own the Private ASP facility fully and run it as a Profit Center; Ford can charge its
Partners on subscription (and/or even transaction basis) along with a possible lump sum enroll-
ment fees. Or Ford can float a separate company along with its participating partners for establish-
ing and run this Private ASP; the Private ASP can then charge via a uniform model for all of its
delivered services to all members of the Private ASP.
14.8 Mobilizing the enterprise and Relationships
Mobilization is fundamentally about extending your enterprise's capacity to do business. The abil-
ity to handle and process both personal and public information while mobile is very compelling.
Mobilization enables enterprises to extend their networks to mobile enterprises effectively while
protecting the investments in legacy systems and current technologies. Mobilizations achieve the
following:
Enable enterprises to distribute enterprise intelligence to wherever, whenever, and whichever
device it is needed, enabling accelerated decisions.
Support the broadest range of enterprise touch points possible. The distinction between
PDAs, wireless phones, and handheld PCs (such as Microsoft's Tablet PC) is becoming
blurred: PDAs are receiving mobile phone functionality and, in turn, Mobile phones are
receiving the functionality of PDAs with calendaring and contact database utilities. And all
of them are converging further to access e-mail, Web pages, Internet, and wired and wireless
infrastructure from anywhere and anytime.
Leverage the use of legacy information assets while continuing to maintain their local auton-
omy, integrity, and relevance.
Isolate current and future intellectual property and mobile applications from infrastructure
and technology innovation and improvements.
