Chapter 14
Supporting and
enhancing SAP CRM
In this chapter, we look at the post-implementation support of SAP within an organization. In
traditional application software systems, ongoing maintenance is known to account for more than
50% of the total cost of any system.
SAP simplifies ongoing changes in the delivered functionality of a system because of
Comprehensive functionality
Inherent flexibility
A comprehensive upgrade strategy
In this short chapter, we highlight some of these aspects that are related to supporting and enhanc-
ing the performance of the SAP implementation and hence its return on investment (ROI). We
end this chapter by looking at the issue of building up consultants and teams for sustaining the
momentum and effectiveness of the SAP implementation and then retaining them for maximizing
the advantages to the company.
14.1 SAP Deployment
One of the major issues after completing the pilot site implementation of SAP is its implementa-
tion at a company's other plant sites and office locations. As touched upon in Chapter 6, “The SAP
Implementation Project Cycle,” and Chapter 12, “Initiating the SAP Project,” SAP deployment at
other sites is simplified by adopting the following measures during the pilot site implementation:
Rationalizing the processes
Standardizing the processes
A comprehensive set of processes relevant to all businesses and locations
The inclusion of members in the implementation from the other sites and offices
