13.2.2.2.6 Implement the Know-How Transfer Process
We have spoken about the tacit (or implicit) and explicit knowledge in Chapter 1, Section 1.2.1.4
“Customer Capital: Customer Knowledge as the New Capital ” and how SAP act as a medium for con-
verting the tacit knowledge of a company into a valuable resource. Further, in the Note “Information
as the New Resource,” we have also discussed how information acts as a tangible resource that drives
the operational processes faster without expending more conventional resources. ASAP does for the
SAP implementation process of the company exactly what productive SAP does for the company as a
whole: use all of this relevant information to drive the very process of SAP implementation itself faster!
This task is related to the achievement of the following objectives:
Converting and codifying the tacit knowledge scattered across the organization into a coher-
ent and integrated body of knowledge for driving the accelerated implementation of SAP
within the organization.
Preventing the same history to repeat again in the case of the know-how gained during
the SAP implementation itself, that is, codifying and disseminating of knowledge gener-
ated during the very implementation of SAP to all the concerned stakeholders as also
for use during the next iteration of the SAP implementation. Or it can also be useful
for other organizations to leverage on the experience and expertise gained during this
implementation.
The valuable experience and insights gained by all members of the SAP team should not lost to
other members in the company. All this know-how is an asset, and the organization needs to capi-
talize on the same. The ASAP Know-how Transfer process taps on the information and experience
found both outside and inside the organization. It builds and leverages on the knowledge base that
accelerates the SAP implementation by helping the SAP project team and the extended team to
take correct decision and also to operationalize these decisions quickly.
ASAP defines the know-how transfer process to be constituted of the following aspects:
1. Knowledge Drivers : That relates to the research, collection, authentication, rationalization,
standardization, and benchmarking of the information, know-how, and technology
2. Knowledge Delivery Process : That relates to the storing, presentation, sharing, and application
of the project knowledge
The know-how transfer process is administered and managed by the change team.
13.2.2.3 Project Team Training
The purpose of this task is to plan and conduct training for the SAP team member. This would
enable them to map the business process requirements of the company to the functionality pro-
vided by R/3 as part of the activities to prepare the Business Blueprint. These are primarily Level
1 and Level 2 courses.
13.2.2.4 Establish Development System Environment
The objective of this task is to install and configure the sandbox client and development system.
