2. Rollout Strategy
This deals with the approach to be adopted for implementation at other than the pilot site
chosen for the implementation project. Usually, a base configuration set at the pilot site is
rolled out at other places with requisite changes in the master data, additional values in
parametric or standard codes data, etc.
3. Implementation of PreConfigured Systems (PCS)
As we have seen in Chapter 12, Section 12.7 “Initiating the SAP Project,” these are SAP
licenses that come preconfigured for requirements of specific industries including global
parameters, process parameters, and reports. This option, if it provides satisfactory func-
tionality that is acceptable to the company, can truly accelerate the implementation to a
very large extent.
13.2.1.1.3 Define Project Organization
This task is related with structure and constituents of the project team. It ensures proper alloca-
tion, monitoring and managing of resources, resource utilization, and work accomplished by the
various subteams:
1. Define Roles.
2. Organize the team.
This task involves identifying, interviewing, and allocating people of these various roles identi-
fied. This also includes arranging for the requisite project infrastructure and also administrative
support personnel.
13.2.1.1.4 Prepare Project Plan
The aim of this task is to prepare a project plan in light of the goals, objectives, strategies, resources,
and budgets allocated for the project. This includes resource utilization plan, budget plan, and a
schedule for achieving the project milestones. Evidently, this is not a static plan but a dynamic
plan that gets fine-tuned as the project progresses through the various predefined milestones:
1. Project Work Plan
2. Project Budget Plan
3. Project Resource Plan
13.2.1.1.5 Prepare Training Plan
This task is responsible to ensure that all members of the core and the extended team undergo proper
training that may have been identified as an essential prerequisite for their roles on the team. It is also
essential to ensure that members get trained in their areas of responsibility and in keeping with the
role at right junctures; otherwise, too wide a gap between training and the actual delivery of learned
skills may deteriorate the performance. In case of the later occurrence, the plan must have provision
for refresher courses to ensure meaningful participation of all members in the project effort.
The training programs could be conducted in-house, in SAP training centers, or at the part-
ner's training facilities. The courses may vary depending on the scope and the background of the
various members of the team.
