ASAP consists of a wealth of checklists, spreadsheets, questionnaires, answers, document tem-
plates, and recommendations. It also provides white papers on important issues and includes
guidebooks, learning tools, and accelerators on more technical issues related to the SAP infra-
structure, installation, and operations. The various reviews and checklists available from ASAP
verify not only the implementation project itself but also the stability and integrity of the system
along each phase of the project.
The characteristics of the ASAP methodology are as follows:

It is a proven methodology, having been used successfully in hundreds of projects initially in
the United States and subsequently all across the world.

It is a comprehensive and seamless methodology with integration across the various phases
of the project.
◾
It skips over the as-is problematic phase in the traditional methodologies to directly target
the analysis and documentation of the to-be business processes.
◾
It promotes three distinct roles to guarantee full attention to all aspects of a rapidly moving
project: project management, application consulting, and technical implementation.
◾
The input from the Business Blueprint phase is used as a direct input for configuration in
the realization phase.
ASAP methodology consists of five phases:
1. Project Preparation Stage
2. Business Blueprint
3. Realization
4. Final Preparation
5. Go Live and Support
In the following sections, we describe each of these phases in sufficient detail. Figure 13.1 shows
SAP's standard schematic on ASAP methodology.
