SAP ASAP Methodology
This chapter introduces the novel implementation methodology devised by SAP to achieve
successful implementations in shorter time periods. This is specifically targeted for customers
from small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Notwithstanding the comprehensiveness and flexibility of SAP to address requirements of
diverse industries, implementing SAP in a reasonable time frame has become one of the most
important issues for companies while evaluating SAP for their organization. Furthermore, as the
high end of the market has become saturated, it is evident that SAP's potential for growth in the
late 1990s is in the SME market. These are the customers who do not have the resources and
time to survive enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation projects extending for periods
ranging from 2 to 3 years.
In 1996, SAP introduced the AcceleratedSAP (ASAP) implementation methodology with the
objective of speeding up the SAP implementation projects. ASAP enabled new customers to utilize
the experience and expertise gleaned from thousands of implementations worldwide. This chapter
introduces the concept and practice of the ASAP methodology for implementation of SAP CRM.
13.1 introducing the ASAP Methodology
ASAP supports the entire life cycle of the SAP installation; it is not confined to the implementa-
tion phase alone. ASAP also provides support for ongoing improvements as well as for efforts
during SAP upgrades.
ASAP integrates the following three components that work in tandem to support the rapid and
efficient implementation of the system:

ASAP Roadmap
: This is a step-by-step methodology for a successful SAP implementation
project.
2.
ASAP tools
: These include project management tools, questionnaires for business process
consultants, and numerous guidebooks and checklists.
3.
R/3 services, support, and training
: This includes all consulting, training, and support services
such as GoingLive Check and remote upgrades or archives.
