In-Depth Information
A company may have to undertake SAP-related training for three different groups of personnel:
◾
The select group of managerial personnel who are key members of their departments and
have been nominated as the members of the functional team.
◾
The group of key users who form the core of the super users to be entrusted with the task of
life-scale testing the system and also training the end users.
◾
All other end users who would be using the system as part of their routine operational duties.
As an important part of the strategy for post-implementation support, the third group is
trained primarily by the members of the second group, the super users.
The managerial personnel group will be trained with an overview of SAP and their module(s) of
interest. The key user group will be trained with an overview of their module and all of the critical
processes of interest. The end-user group will be trained only in the processes that are routinely
used by them on a daily basis.
12.10 Risk Management in a SAP Project
Because the SAP project is an implementation of a standard package, the risks associated with
a SAP project are different from those traditionally associated with software implementations.
Traditional software projects' major risks are as follows:
◾
Lack of resources
◾
Lack of appropriate resources
◾
Lack of clarity, completeness, and certainty on the scope and functionality
◾
Requirements capture and analysis
◾
System design that is effective, efficient, and at the same time flexible for changes in the
future
◾
Development of the system based on this design and testing using this design as a
reference
◾
Training various groups of users on the new system
◾
Interfacing real time with other application systems
◾
Loading all relevant and up-to-date data into the new system
◾
Parallel runs with the new system
◾
Switching to the new system
◾
Missing deadlines
◾
Disputes regarding roles, responsibilities, and performance criteria
◾
User disagreements or nonparticipation
◾
Software or infrastructure failures
In addition to these risks, SAP projects have other risks including the following:
◾
Requirements capture and analysis
◾
Understanding what the SAP system can provide
◾
Evaluating and focusing on the gaps in functionality
◾
Configuring and customizing the SAP system correctly
◾
Integration testing of the SAP system
◾
Training all groups of users almost in tandem
