In-Depth Information
an object from the tree structure for processing. Editors enable users to open, process, and save
development objects. In addition to editors for texts and Java source code, NWDS is equipped with
editors for processing special development objects like Enterprise JavaBeans (EJBs) entailing the
bean class along with the corresponding components and the home interfaces.
An overview of the user interface of the NWDS is described in the following:
File Bar and Toolbars : This enlists the familiar tools for saving, printing, and so on. It also
provides options for saving metadata, which are required to generate automatically the Java
class model and also update simultaneously the corresponding metadata projects like Java
Dictionary and Web Dynpro. The program section provides facilities for debugging and
test runs.
Perspectives : This enlists projects of a particular type. Apart from the standard view for class
trees, special views are available for J2EE, Web Dynpro, and Java Dictionary projects.
Project Tree/Workplace : This enlists projects of particular type along with their constituting
development objects. The project tree structure displayed here depends on the corresponding
perspective selected earlier.
Different Workplace Views : This indicates the extended view when they are applicable.
Characteristics and Excerpt Views : This displays the characteristics of the selected project or
development object along with its current values. Alternatively, in case of Java classes, this
extends the navigation to the methods and variables of the classes.
Characteristics/Excerpt View Selection : This toggles between the characteristic and excerpt
view.
Open Documents : This displays all currently open documents, with an asterisk (*) to indicate
changed documents.
Work Area of Current Document : This displays one document in the regular development
view, which also provides for syntax highlighting and error detection. This also provides for
the visual design or layout environment for Web Dynpro and JSP previews.
Warning and Error Display : This displays the warnings and errors on account of syntax
errors, structure violations, etc., adjacent to the concerned line of code on the left-hand side
of the work area. Clicking on the respective icon, it automatically displays a potential solu-
tion that is implemented via a user dialog.
Warning and Error Navigation Bar : This provides navigation to the individual error locations
within the active document: clicking on the bar, the work area automatically scrolls to the
error and its surrounding coding.
Ta sk Li st : This enlists warning and error messages across all documents and projects;
double-clicking on a particular error opens the corresponding document with the cursor
positioned on the error.
