In-Depth Information
SAP NWDS along with JDI provides consistent access to all Java development tools and serves as
the central point of entry for all SAP infrastructure components irrespective of whether SAP tech-
nologies like Web Dynpro Java Dictionary or standard technologies like J2EE or XML are being
used. The JDI consists of tightly connected central services for design, implementation, building,
and testing purposes that can be used either in the localized or centralized mode of operations.
SAP NetWeaver JDI includes the following components:
Design Time Repository (DTR) for central storage, versioning, and management of Java
source code and other resources. It provides an automatic mechanism for conflict detection
and resolution.
Component Build Service (CBS) creates the corresponding runtime objects like Java
archives that are installable on the central J2EE server. The CBS creates incremental build
and updates them automatically with the dependent components via DTR.
Change Management Service (CMS) takes the results of the build process from CBS and
accordingly initializes the distribution and installation in the J2EE server environment.
Software Deployment Manager (SDM) manages the installation and update of the software
components on the J2EE server.
Java Dictionary, like the ABAP Dictionary, maintains the global definition of tables and
data types.
Java Test Tools enable starting, stopping, debugging, and testing of Java components irre-
spective of whether they reside on local or remote AS server.
10.4.5 SAP Solution Manager
SAP Solution Manager (SM) plays a critical role in providing the tools required for the entire life
cycle of the solution, from implementation to the productive operation, including continuous
changes and upgrades that are unavoidable in any implementation. SM provides a wide range of
tools and functionalities such as implementation and upgrade documentation, tools for managing
SAP licenses, tools for solution monitoring and systems management, comprehensive statistics
regarding system performance and load, high availability concepts, the application log, and tools
for customizing, testing, and data archiving. It also provides facilities for managing and monitor-
ing systems and business process of the enterprise.
10.5 Summary
This chapter discussed SAP CRM application environment with special focus on SAP NetWeaver,
which is SAP's implementation of the Service-Oriented Architecture. SAP NetWeaver enables
integration at various levels with myriad of heterogeneous systems that populate most of the
enterprises.
