3. Internal company code for corporate subsidiaries and/or regions : This case is characterized by
complete technical financial separation with a common use of technical system and logistic
resources, uniform usage, and common or separate financial processing.
4. Sales organization for divisions and/or regions : This case is characterized by complete technical
sales separation with common usage of technical system resources, uniform usage and data
integration, and common or separate financial processing.
5. Subdivision of sales organizations : The sales office is the organizational unit of the sales and
distribution department, responsible for distribution within a geographical area. The sales
group executes the sales procedure and is internally responsible.
6. Organizational definition of customer relationship : The distribution channel designates the
path upon which marketable services reach customers. Typical examples of distribution
channels include direct sales or key account sales.
7. Organizational definition of product responsibility : This case is characterized by the distribu-
tion department forming an organizational unit that, with regard to sales or profit responsi-
bility, is composed of marketable services.
There are further specific organizational hierarchies within the individual applications. For
instance, in purchasing, there are purchasing organizations and purchasing groups. In distribu-
tion, there are sales organizations, distribution channels, etc. These organizational layers enable
users to work together within a single client of the SAP system, while on the other hand being
limited to their respective organizational areas.
7.3.3.3 Implementation Guide (IMG)
SAP Implementation Guide (IMG) plays a critical role in the customization of SAP delivered to
a customer to the specific requirements of the customer. This is achieved through configuration
of the SAP software without modifying the base SAP software. SAP provides the implementation
environment called Business Engineer, which manages and assists this effort for the configuration
of SAP. This contains tools like the Business Navigator, Implementation Guide (IMG), Business
Workflow, and IDES.
IMG tool is similar to the initialization modules of the traditional systems except that, in com-
parison, the number of parameters that are definable here are very large. In fact, it is the most vital
tool for successful configuration of SAP for specific requirements of different companies. Over a
course of time, the IMG exists in the following versions:
1. Reference IMG
2. Enterprise IMG
3. Project(s) IMG
The Reference IMG is the initial IMG that has the base set of configuration options from which
all SAP functionality can be derived as per specific requirements. It is the most generic version of
the system available. All other IMGs are derived from this basic version.
In contrast, the Enterprise IMG is a subset of the Reference IMG, which represents only the func-
tionality that is needed by a particular enterprise implementing the system. Configuration options
related to these excluded modules get filtered out at the time of generation of the Enterprise IMG.
