3. Project Monitoring : The actual effort and time expended need to be compared to the planned
effort and schedule on a frequent basis. Any observed deviations, or pattern of deviations, are
corrected immediately. Any rescheduling of the project plan is addressed only in the project
reviews.
4. Project Reviews : The main objective of project reviews is to ascertain the progress made with
reference to the planned schedule. Progress on the action points of the last review is reas-
sessed. Any shortfalls in achieving milestones or delays are diagnosed for the reasons, and
corrective measures taken are endorsed or changed. Any suggestions for changing strategies
are considered during the reviews. Any unforeseen problems cropping up during the project
are analyzed here.
6.10 SAP CRM implementation
Unlike the traditional software development project, this involves three main phases: pre-
implementation, implementation, and post-implementation. The pre-implementation issues have
been discussed in Chapters 12 and 13. Implementation by using ASAP methodology is presented
in Chapter 14. The post-implementation phase is discussed in Chapter 15.
6.10.1 Pre-Implementation
Pre-implementation involves the formation of the project and steering committees, the constitu-
tion of the implementation project team, and the installation of hardware and SAP CRM soft-
ware. The latter involves readying the hardware and infrastructure and installing the operating
systems, database software, client software, and SAP CRM software. The SAP CRM administra-
tion function entails system administration, application administration, ISS transaction server
administration, communications server administration, network administration, database admin-
istration, printer administration, client administration, user's authentication and access security
administration, and so forth. Another major activity during this phase is training for the imple-
mentation team and other users, which is very critical to the success of the project:
1. Training : Considering the short time frames of the SAP CRM implementation projects,
SAP CRM has identified training as an important determinant in the success of any project.
SAP CRM offers a broad spectrum of training courses covering all stakeholders of a SAP
CRM project. These courses cover a range of topics from a general overview to in-depth
coverage of individual topics.
