tremendous advantages in terms of performance and costs. This also enables any installations to
benefit from the latest developments in infrastructure technologies (hardware, O/S, networking,
DBMS, and so on) without disrupting the SAP system in production.
5.2.13.2 Interoperability
Open system interfaces permit SAP to be integrated with other applications using earlier-
noted industry standard interfaces like Object Linking Enabling (OLE) and Remote Function
Call (R FC).
Figure 5.3 shows the standard protocols used by SAP with reference to the OSI-layered model
for networks.
5.2.14 SAP Worldwide Services
SAP provides companies with a comprehensive set of services during the implementation and sup-
port phases of their implementations. SAP delivers support services mainly on remote connections
between customer SAP installations and the network of SAP support servers spread throughout
the world.
