business processes are designed to satisfy the majority of an organization's business requirements
out of a box. These features are upgradable from one version to the next, which allows customers
to leverage a steady stream of new features and enhancements.
5.2.7 Customization and Upgrades
Organizations increasingly rely upon the strategic value of their customer, partner, and
employee relationships to achieve higher revenues, greater loyalty, and increased competitive
advantage. Cultivating those relationships requires sound business processes that are dynamic
and require frequent modifications. For example, business frequently changes marketing cam-
paigns, realigns territory assignments, and alters escalation procedures in a call center to deal
with changing market conditions or because of constraints on internal resources. Consequently,
E-Business applications need to provide industry-specific functionality that can be easily modi-
fied to fit the needs of an ever-changing business. SAP provides the tools for a company to tailor
SAP to its specific requirements by configuring the parameters at the time of implementation.
This custom support is counter to the general emphasis on standardizing the processes and
implementing generic ones. It's a business truism that the survival and success of a company
depend on how it differentiates itself and its products or services from those of its competitors.
