promote emerging and established artists, in addition to offering arts educa-
tion and exhibitions. Every year, the group sponsors the Geaux Arts Ball,
which raises money for its educational-outreach program.
Across the street at 321 N. Columbia is Winos and Tacos, a fun spot to chill
with a glass of wine or a margarita. The Columbia Street Tap Room, at 434
N. Columbia, serves 30 beers on tap and 60 varieties of bottled beer.

Turn left at East Lockwood Street and walk one block to North New Hamp-
shire Street. At this intersection you'll see the Covington Brewhouse, where
craft beers such as Pontchartrain Pilsner, Bayou Bock, and Kölsch are mi-
crobrewed. The brewery is open for tours on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to
noon.

Turn left on North New Hampshire and stop at the Covington Trailhead,
which marks the beginning of a 31-mile paved trail called the Tammany
Trace. The trail connects Covington with the cities of Abita Springs,
Mandeville, Lacombe, and Slidell. The site has a clock tower, an amphitheat-
er, a museum and visitor center, and a small movie theater. You'll also see the
world's tallest statue of President Ronald Reagan. On Wednesdays, the Cov-
ington Farmers Market sets up shop here, selling locally grown fruits and ve-
getables as well as locally produced eggs, milk, cheese, meat, poultry, and
seafood. Musical performances and cooking demonstrations add to the fest-
ivities.

Walk two blocks back to East Boston Street, then turn left and walk two
blocks to North Florida Street. If you need a place to rest your feet and sip a
drink, The Green Room music club (521 E. Boston) begins its happy hour at
2 p.m. For lattes and other coffee drinks, try St. John's Coffeehouse, at 535
E. Boston.

At North Florida, turn left and walk one block to East Gibson Street. Turn
right and walk one block back to the starting point on Lee Lane.
