In-Depth Information
The Gumbel Memorial Fountain, at the entrance of the park, is the work of Austrian sculptor Isidore Konti.
Cross Magazine St. and return to the north side of the park. Get back on the
jogging trail and continue walking north. On the left, you'll see the Newman
Bandstand, the only location in the park where amplified music is allowed.
In that same area is the Louisiana Roll of Honor, a World War I memorial.
Continue walking north past the stately homes of Exposition Boulevard to
your right and—about halfway between Magazine and St. Charles—Bird Is-
land, which has been part of Audubon Park for more than a century. The
natural bird habitat is home to egrets, herons, and other wading birds.
Continue walking north toward St. Charles Avenue. As you get closer, you'll
see the tower of the Holy Name of Jesus Church and hear the rumbling of
streetcars. Turn northwest and return to the front entryway.
