Sculpting for Normal Maps
The next step in adding detail to your zombie is sculpting. Sculpting is
how game artists add high-resolution detail to low-polygon models. These details will
be exported as a normal map, a special type of texture that tells game engines to display
low-poly models as though they were high-poly. Whereas other 3D programs require
designers to export their models for sculpting, Blender users can sculpt in Blender itself.
This chapter will show you how to take advantage of these powerful tools and add more
realism to your game characters.
This chapter covers the following topics:
The purpose of sculpting
Introducing the Multires modifier
Using Blender's sculpting interface
Sculpting the zombie in Blender
Baking normal maps
