Project: Buffalo Bend Park, Houston, TX
Buffalo Bend Park is a conversion of a waterfront industrial landscape
into an urban wetlands demonstration project. The plan will divert
urban runoff into a series of connected wetlands before returning the
flow to the bayou, removing bacteria, nutrients, and toxic materials from
the flow on the way. The plan includes parking, trails, wetlands, a small
hill, boardwalks, interpretive signage, and reforestation. The underly-
ing goal of the project is to create a working wetland system that will
improve the local water quality and be used as a teaching tool for resi-
dents. All cut and fill for the project was balanced on-site.
