Project: red Butte Garden, University of Utah, Salt lake city
The Red Butte Conservation Garden master plan provides a road map
for expanding the visitor experience onto a steep hillside and former
quarry. The site affords a spectacular view of the surrounding native
mountain landscape. The intent of the program and plan was to feature
conservation gardening in arid climates. Major goals include expanding
educational programming spaces, adding visitor destinations, communi-
cating a water and resource conservation message, and celebrating the
beauty of the native Utah flora. Site grading will serve as the physical
framework integrating planned conservation gardening improvements
on steep terrain with paths that will engage visitors with the landscape
through an ADA-accessible trails system weaving through and binding
together the various display gardens.
