The lawn shown in Figures 13.13-A through 13.13-C is a new addition to
what was previously an undeveloped, poorly draining area. To solve the
drainage problem, and as a means to carry water away from the wood-
lot in the background, a drainage swale
was created and a catch basin installed in
the lawn. The earth removed in creating
the swale was used to create gentle earth
mounds to either side of the swale.
Step One: A catch basin is located in
the center of the lawn area, with a swale
directing surface water to the catch basin.
Step Two: Contours represent the
landform consisting of a central swale
with mounding to either side of the swale.
