Spot elevations are coordinated on a grading plan with direction of
slope arrows and percent of slope. The slope arrows indicate the direc-
tion where the designer wants to direct surface water flow on paved sur-
faces, along swales, or on sloping ground. Referring to Figure 10.23, item
A indicates the direction and degree of slope to direct surface water in
this campus outdoor gathering area. Spot elevations are indicated by the
+ symbol. Further items in the figure include:
A = Slope arrows
B = Percent of slope
C = Spot elevation at entry to gathering area
D = Spot elevation at the rim of the catch basin
E = Place for a note indicating there are three steps, each with a 4" riser
G = Spot elevation at top of wall (normally, a spot elevation at the bottom of the
wall would also be given)
