In Figure 9.24 is one more example of how to create a uniform
slope using contour lines. In this example the slope is 10 percent, so
to find the horizontal distance between successive contour lines, you
need to solve for H in the formula S = V / H.
S = 0.1
V = 1'
H = is what you want to determine
S = V / H
0.1 = 1 / H
H = 1 / 0.1
H = 10'
You can now measure and space the distance of 10 feet between
95´ and 94´, through 90´ contours. The contours are evenly spaced 10 feet
apart on the plan to create a surface sloping at 10%.
