Suppose you wanted to create a uniform slope using contour
lines. Refer to Figure 9.23. Assume you were starting from the 97´
contour line and wanted to create a 5 percent slope using contour
lines. You have already calculated the horizontal distance between
the 97´ and 96´ contour lines in Figure 9.23. Since you are continuing
with a uniform slope of 5 percent, the horizontal distance of the next
contours 95´, 94´, and further down-slope would also be 20 feet. Thus,
to create the 5 percent slope, you would measure a 20-foot distance
from the 96´ contour to the 95´ contour and from the 95´ contour to
the 94´ contour, and draw the lines for creating a uniform 5 percent
slope.
