In Figure 9.15 the elevation of the sidewalk pavement at point A
is 34.5 feet. If we wanted to know the elevation of point B, we would
use the S = V / H formula to make the calculation. In order to calcu-
late the elevation of point B, we need to know two components of the
slope formula. From the figure we can see that the slope is 5 percent,
and the horizontal distance from point A to point B is 35 feet. Now
let's calculate the elevation of point B:
S = V / H
.05 = V / 35'
V = .05 X 35'
V = 1.75 feet
Subtract 1.75 from the elevation of point A to get the elevation of point B
35 - 1.75 = 33.25
The elevation of point B is 33.25 feet.
