Valley, ravine, or swale landform signature
In the photograph in Figure 8.4-A the contours are oriented uphill,
creating a swale or valley landform, while the contours in the road bow
downhill to form a crown landform. Figure 8.4-B is a plan view of the
same general area where the photograph was taken. You can readily see
how the contours create a swale condition along the north side of the
road, as well as a crown along the centerline of the same road.
