As shown in Figures 7.7b and 7.7c, surface electrodes are disc electrodes and
are more commonly used in gait analysis because they are less invasive and
easier to use. Nevertheless, surface electrodes are not suitable for recording
EMG activity from the deep muscles because of cross talk or electrical activity
from neighboring muscles; so in such cases, wire electrodes are used.
