was investigated.(Masaki et al., 2006) To date, the infections have not been controlled or prevented very
successfully.(Bootsma, Diekmann, & Bonten, 2006; Loveday, Pellowe, Jones, & Pratt, 2006) Attempts
to predict the infection have not been terribly successful, and without accurate prediction, preventive
treatment cannot be targeted to those patients at highest risk.(Malde, Hardern, & Welch, 2006) If predic-
tive modeling on a more general basis can be used to identify those patients most at risk for acquiring
resistant infection, preventive measures can be targeted to reduce the likelihood of infection, reducing
treatment costs while simultaneously improving patient care.(Thomas, Cantrill, Waghorn, & McIntyre,
2007)
In addition to predicting the occurrence of MRSA, we looked at treatment of the infection. While
there is some suggestion that cutaneous infection can be treated with debridement and drainage for
patients who are otherwise healthy, all other occurrences of resistant infection require some type of
antibiotic treatment.(Gorwitz, Jernigan, Powers, & Jernigan, 2006) Unfortunately, we found that the
