Prehistory Welcome Center (Pôle International de la Préhistoire)
Start your prehistoric explorations at the Pôle International de la Préhistoire (PIP) at the
Sarlat (east) end of town. This glass-and-concrete facility gives a good introduction to this
region's important prehistoric sites. The low-slung building houses timelines, slideshows,
and exhibits (all in English) that work together to give visitors a primer on the origins of
man. The English-speaking staff is happy to provide maps of the region, and give sugges-
tions on places to visit—and (incredibly) it's all free. Park here (for free), then walk 200
yards into Les Eyzies for its National Museum of Prehistory.
