In-Depth Information
This feudal village tumbles down a steep hill from its majestic castle to the river far
below. You'll have the Dordogne River at your doorstep and a perfectly preserved medi-
eval village winding, like a sepia-tone film set, from the beach to the castle above. Except
for the castle, there's nothing to “tour.” The purely stone village—with steep streets that
still have their Languedoc (old French) names—is just plain pretty. The floodlit village is
always open for evening strollers.
Orientation: The TI is across from the recommended Hôtel du Château (daily
10:00-12:30 & 14:00-17:30, tel. 05 53 29 43 08). Pick up the Plan de Beynac in English
for a simple self-guided walking tour, get information on hiking and canoes, and even get
change for the parking meters (€10 or lower denomination notes only). A few steps down
from the TI is the post office (which has an ATM). If you need a lift, call Beynac-based
Taxi Corinne (see here ) . From June to September, there's a cute little market on Monday
mornings in the riverfront parking lot. Drivers can park at pay lots located on the river,
way up at the castle (follow signs to Château de Beynac ), or halfway between. The same
parking ticket works up at the château if you decide against the climb.
