The King's Vegetable Garden (Le Potager du Roi): When Louis XIV demanded
fresh asparagus in the middle of winter, he got it, thanks to his vegetable garden. The
22-acre garden—still productive—is open to visitors. Stroll through symmetrically laid-
out plots planted with vegetables both ordinary and exotic, among thousands of fruit trees.
Even today, the garden sprouts 20 tons of vegetables and 50 tons of fruit a year, which
