The fast-looking, slow-moving
tram
(petit train)
leaves from behind the Château
(north side) and makes a one-way loop, stopping at the Grand and Petit Trianons (entry
points to Domaine de-Marie-Antoinette), then the Grand Canal before returning to the
Château (€3.70 each way, pay driver, free for kids under 11, 4/hour, runs 11:00-18:00).
Note that it doesn't go
from
the Grand Canal
to
the Domaine de Marie-Antoinette.
Another option is to rent a
golf cart
for a fun drive through the Gardens. You can't
drive it in the Trianon/Domaine, but you can park it outside the entrance while you sight-
see inside (€30/hour, 4-person limit per cart, rent down by the canal or just behind the
Château, near the
petit train
stop).

The Gardens offeraworldofroyal amusements. The warmth from
the Sun King was so great that he could even grow orange trees in chilly France. Louis
XIV had a thousand of these to amaze his visitors. In winter they were kept in the green-
houses (beneath your feet) that surround the courtyard. On sunny days, they were wheeled
out in their silver planters and scattered around the grounds.
