Austrian royal family, Marie-Antoinette, and together they retreated into the idyllic
gardens of Versailles while revolutionary fires smoldered.
You'll finish in the Queen's Wing, where you'll visit the Queen's bedchamber, the
guard room where Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette surrendered to the Revolution, and
Napoleon's coronation room. (Note: In 2014, some rooms of the Queen's Wing may be
closed for renovation.)
Getting Around the Gardens: It's a 45-minute walk from the palace, down to the
Grand Canal, past the two Trianon palaces, all the way to the Hamlet at the far end of Do-
mainedeMarie-Antoinette.Allowmoretimeifyoustopalongtheway.Afterenduringthe
slow Château shuffle, stretching your legs out here feels pretty good.
There's a bike rental station by the Grand Canal. A bike won't save you that much
time (youcan'ttake it inside the groundsofthe Trianon/Domaine; park it near an entrance
