Transportation Between Charles de Gaulle Airport and Paris
Buses, airport vans, commuter trains, and taxis link the airport's terminals with central
Paris. If you're traveling with two or more companions, carrying lots of baggage, or are
just plain tired, taxis are worth the extra cost. If you're arriving on a weekday morning,
however, taxis are much less appealing, as traffic into Paris can be bad—in that case, the
train is likely to be a better option.
Public Transportation to Recommended Hotels
You have many options for traveling between Charles de Gaulle Airport and Paris;
whichalternativemakesthemostsensedependsnotonlyonyourbudget,butwhere
you're staying in the city. Here are my tips for getting to recommended hotels, ac-
cordingtotheneighborhoodthey'rein.Keepinmindthat,attheairport,usingbuses
(and taxis) require shorter walks than taking RER trains. Also remember that trans-
fers to Métro lines often involve stairs. For more information, check the “Getting
There” tab at www.charlesdegaulleairport.co.uk .
Rue Cler Area: The RoissyBus, RER, and “Les Cars” Air France bus all work
well for Rue Cler hotels. If taking the RoissyBus, ride it all the way to the Opéra
stop, then take Métro line 8 (direction: Balard) and get off at the La Tour Maubourg
orEcoleMilitairestop.OrhoptheRER-Bfromtheairport,changeattheSt.Michel
stop for the RER-C (direction: Versailles Château Rive Gauche or Pontoise), and,
depending on where exactly your hotel is, either change again at the Invalides stop
to Métro line 8 (direction: Balard; get off either at La Tour Mauberg or Ecole Milit-
aire), or stay on the RER for one more stop, and get off at Pont de l'Alma. If riding
the Air France bus, take it to the Arc de Triomphe, then grab the #92 city bus and
hop off at one of the stops along Avenue Bosquet, shortly after crossing the river
(for stop locations near the Arc, see the map on here ; for stop locations on Avenue
Bosquet, see here ) .
Marais and Ile St. Louis: Take “Les Cars” Air France bus (#4) to Gare de
Lyon, find the Métro entry near the bus stop, then take a quick trip on Métro line
1 (direction: La Défense). Get off at the Bastille or St. Paul stops for the Marais,
or the Hôtel de Ville stop for Ile St. Louis. Or, take the RER-B from the airport
to the Châtelet-Les Halles stop and transfer to Métro line 1 (direction: Château de
Vincennes; long walk with some stairs in a huge station), and get off at Hôtel de
Ville, St. Paul, or Bastille.
Luxembourg Garden: RER-B to the Luxembourg stop.
