French Train Terms and Abbreviations
SNCF (Société Nationale Chemins de Fer):
This is the Amtrak of France, operat-
ing all national train lines that link cities and towns.
TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse):
SNCF's network of high-speed trains (twice as
fast as regular trains) that connect major cities in France. These trains always re-
quire a reservation.
