Le Brulot is an Antibes institution with two restaurants—Le Brulot and Le Brulot
Pasta—thatsitalmostside-by-sideashortblockbelowMarchéProvençalonRueFrédéric
Isnard. Join Antibes residents at the very popular Le Brulot, known for its Provençal
cuisine and meats cooked on an open fire. It's a small place, overflowing onto the street,
with a few outside tables and a dining room below. Try the aioli ( menus from €19, closed
Sun, at #2, tel. 04 93 34 17 76). Le Brulot Pasta is family-friendly, with excellent pizza
(the €11 printanière is tasty and huge) and big portions of pasta, served in air-conditioned
comfort under stone arches (daily, at #3, tel. 04 93 34 19 19).
Les Vieux Murs is a romantic splurge with a candlelit, red-toned interior overlook-
ing the sea. The outside tables are worth booking ahead—but pass on the upstairs room
(€44 dinner menu, €30 lunch menu, closed Mon, also closed Sun evening off-season, valet
parking available, along ramparts beyond Picasso Museum at 25 Promenade de l'Amiral

From Antibes by Train: TGV and local trains serve Antibes' little station. Trains
go to Cannes (2/hour, 15 minutes), Nice (2/hour, 15-30 minutes, €4), Grasse (1/hour, 40
minutes), Villefranche-sur-Mer (2/hour, 40 minutes), Monaco (2/hour, 50 minutes), and
Marseille (16/day, 2.5 hours).
By Bus: Handy bus #200 ties everything together, but runs at a snail's pace when
traffic is bad (Mon-Sat 4/hour, Sun 2-3/hour, any ride costs €1). This bus goes west to
Cannes (35 minutes); and east to Nice (1-1.5 hours). Bus #250 links to Nice Airport (2/
hour, 40 minutes, €8).
Inland Riviera
For a verdant, rocky, fresh escape from the beaches, head inland and upward. Some of
France's most perfectly perched hill towns and splendid scenery hang overlooked in this
regionthat'smorefamousforbeachesandbikinis.Drivingistheeasiestwaytogetaround,
though the bus gets you to many of the places described. Vence and St-Paul-de-Vence are
well-served by bus from Nice every 30-45 minutes (see “Nice Connections,” here ) .
