Other Markets and Squares
Antibes' lively antiques/flea market fills Place Nationale and Place Audiberti (next to the
port) on Thursdays and Saturdays (7:00-18:00). Its clothing market winds through the
streets around the post office (Rue Lacan) on Thursdays (9:00-18:00). Place Général de
Gaulle, a pleasing, palm-studded, and fountain-flowing square in Antibes' modern city, is
the trendy place to be seen.
Fort Carré
Thisimpressivelysituatedcitadel,datingfrom1487,wasthelastfortinsideFrance.Itpro-
tected Antibes from Nice, which until 1860 was part of Italy. You can tour this unusual
four-pointed fort for the fantastic views over Antibes, but there's little to see inside.
