In-Depth Information
Etiquette
• When your train arrives, board only after everyone leaving the car has made it
out the door.
• Avoid using the hinged seats near the doors of some trains when the car is
crowded; they take up valuable standing space.
• Always offer your seat to the elderly, those with disabilities, and pregnant wo-
men.
• Talk softly in cars. Listen to how quietly Parisians communicate (if at all) and
follow their lead.
• If you find yourself blocking the door at a stop, step out of the car to let others
off, then get back on.
• Métro doors close automatically. Don't try to hold open the door for late-board-
ing passengers.
• On escalators, stand on the right and pass on the left.
