In-Depth Information
There are three stops in Monaco. Listed in order from Nice, they are Place d'Armes
(in front of a tunnel at the base of Monaco-Ville's rock), Stade Nautique (closest stop to
Monaco-Ville on the port), and Office de Tourisme (near the casino and the TI on Avenue
d'Ostende). The Place d'Armes stop is the best starting point, and is the only signed stop
(otherwise, verify with locals that you're at the right stop). From the Place d'Armes stop,
you can walk up to Monaco-Ville and the palace (10 minutes straight up), or catch a quick
local bus (line #1 or #2—see “Getting Around Monaco,” later). To reach the bus stop and

By Train from Nice: This looooong underground train station is in central Monaco,
about a 15-minute walk to the casino or to the port, and about 25 minutes to the palace.
The station has no baggage storage.
The TI and ticket windows are up the escalator at the Italy end of the station. There
are three exits from the train platform level (one at each end and one in the middle).
To reach Monaco-Ville and the palace from the station, take the platform-level exit
attheNiceendofthetracks(signed SortieFontvieille/MonacoVille ),whichleadsthrough
a long tunnel (TI annex at end); as you emerge from the tunnel, turn right, turn left at the
endofthewalkway,andcrossthebusyintersection. Fromhere,it'sa15-minute hikeupto
the palace, or take the bus (#1 or #2).
To reach Monaco's port and the casino, take the mid-platform exit, closer to the Italy
end of the tracks. Follow Sortie la Condamine signs down the steps and escalators, then
follow Accès Port signs until you pop out at the port, where you'll see the stop for buses
#1and#2.It'sa25-minutewalkfromtheporttothepalace(toyourright)or20minutesto
the casino (up Avenue d'Ostende to your left), or a short trip via buses #1 or #2 to either.
If you plan to return to Nice by train after 20:30, when ticket windows close, buy
your return tickets now or be sure to have about €4 in coins (the ticket machines only take
coins).
